DashCut Privacy Policy

DashCut is developed by Dashmade and built so that your footage stays on your Mac. This page explains what the app and this website do and don't do with data.

The short version

• DashCut has no accounts, no analytics and no servers of its own.
• Your video and audio are processed on your Mac and are never uploaded by us.
• Transcript text is sent to the language model provider you choose, only when you ask DashCut to find clips or write social captions.

What stays on your Mac

Transcription and speaker identification run on-device using speech models bundled with the app. Your source videos, transcripts, candidate clips and rendered files are stored on your Mac, in the locations you choose. DashCut keeps a security-scoped bookmark to each source video so it can reopen it after a relaunch.

What is sent to a language model provider

To find clips and to write social post captions, DashCut sends transcript text (words and timings) directly from your Mac to the provider you configure in Settings: Anthropic, OpenAI, OpenRouter, Groq, or an OpenAI-compatible endpoint you specify. We are not a party to that exchange and never see it. What the provider does with the text is governed by that provider's own terms and privacy policy. If you use a local model server such as Ollama or LM Studio on your own machine or network, the text goes only there.

No video or audio is ever sent.

API keys

Provider API keys are stored in the macOS Keychain on your Mac. They are used only to authenticate requests to the provider you set them up for.

Subscriptions

DashCut Pro is an auto-renewing subscription sold through the Mac App Store. Apple handles payment and subscription management. DashCut checks your subscription status through Apple's StoreKit on your device and receives no payment details or personal information.

This website

This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics or third-party trackers. It is served by Cloudflare, which may process standard connection data such as IP addresses to deliver pages and protect against abuse, under Cloudflare's privacy policy.
